PHOTO BY RICHARD AKRIDGE Lampasas sophomore post Secody Howard scored a combined 23 points during two games last week, including the game winner against Lanier. Secody Howard did it all in the final seconds against Lanier.

In the back end of a doubleheader last week, the sophomore forced a turnover that led to his game-clinching basket with one second left on the clock, giving the Badgers a 42-41 victory.

Howard finished with 15 points while helping improve Lampasas' record to 4-3 in All-CenTex Summer League play.

Earlier that night, the 5-11 forward posted eight points in a 45- 31 win over district rival Hutto. Howard scored a combined 12 points in two games the week before.

While Howard was able to take over in the tail end of the contest versus Lanier, his teammates were instrumental in putting the Badgers in position to steal the victory.

Lampasas used a balanced offensive attack to keep things close, as senior forward Eduardo Davila posted 10 points and guard Ethan Byers added seven. Brandon Scott and Manny Lopez each tallied four points, and point guard Colton Perkins rounded out the team's scoring with two points.

In the evening's opening game, the Badgers used a similar strategy to knock off the Hippos.

Davila led the team with nine points while, including Howard, four others chipped in at least six. Senior Astin Murray scored seven, edging out the duo of Byers and Gabe Myles, who each added six.

Perkins followed with five points. Scott and Lopez scored two apiece in the blowout.

With the departure of Heath Hopson, who is set to begin his college career later this year at Trinity University, the Badgers are receiving plenty of promise for the future from their underclassmen.

Prior to Howard's outburst, sophomore Scott exploded for 32 points in a pair of games two weeks ago. The 6-2 guard led Lampasas offensively in both contests, scoring 14 in a loss to Connally and 18 in a win over Smithville.

The Badgers were off this week due to postponement of games, but they are scheduled to return to action Wednesday.
