John Mezger Sr. Former Kempner resident John Lynn Mezger Sr., 86, of Marble Falls died July 1, 2009, after a brief illness.

A memorial service is July 12 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls.

Mr. Mezger was born April 21, 1923, in Marble Falls, the son of Emmett Carl and Pearl Lacy Mezger.

He graduated from Marble Falls High School where he excelled in sports.

During World War II, Mr. Mezger served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Ben Hur Shriners of Austin and the Methodist Church.

Mr. Mezger was in the ranching and limestone business in Lampasas County, and later in Burnet County. He was an avid outdoorsman and football fan.

Survivors include three sons, James R. Mezger and wife, Janet, of Salado, William C. "Bill" Mezger and wife, Katherine, of Lampasas, and John L. Mezger Jr. of Marble Falls; five grandchildren, John Mezger of Cedar Park, Melissa Mezger and Lacy Mezger, both of Dallas, Matt Mezger of Stamford and Will Mezger of Lampasas; a great-granddaughter, Layton Elizabeth; one brother, Robert L. Mezger of Marble Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James C. Mezger; and a son, Leslie R. "Bud" Mezger.
