LMS students learn how to become a 'real' American
      The best way to become a "real American," according to Washington, D.C., guide Brooks Breece, is to take a tour with him of the nation's Capital and pay tribute to the heroes who fought and died for the country. That's exactly what 43 Lampasas Middle School eighth-graders and 14 local parents and teachers did on June 1-5.

Classics to gather, have weenie roast
      Classics at the Classic will celebrate July 4 with a gathering at Storm's Drive-in's back parking lot at 7 p.m. Scott and Sharon Carrigan will sponsor a weenie roast, and everyone is invited to show off their classic vehicles.

TAKS retests to be given
      Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills retesting will be offered July 14-17 at 8:30 a.m. each day at Lampasas Middle School cafeteria as follows. English/language arts, July 14; math, July 15; science, July 16; and social studies, July 17.

Church to host barbecue retreat
      The 2009 Women's Retreat is Aug. 7-9 to be co-hosted by New Jerusalem Ministries of Faith, 1011 Bridge St. Events Aug. 7 and Aug. 8 will be held at the Holiday House with the morning sessions at 10 a.m., and evening service at 7 p.m.

FFA'ers headed to convention
      A large delegation of Lampasas FFA members, parents and guests will be attending the 81st Texas FFA State Convention July 6-10 at the Dallas Convention Center. FFA members Reese Vann and Kelsie Ray will be recognized on Thursday at the fourth session as scholarship recipients. They will receive a combined $25,000 in stipends.

Art club raffling quilt
      Members of the Lampasas Art Club met in June at Lampasas Art Gallery in My Girls with president Mary Ellen Zimmerman presiding. Reports from committee members included a report on the successful garage sale to benefit the gallery. Those who assisted with the sale also were thanked.

Aglow meeting slated Thursday
      Lampasas Aglow, a Community Lighthouse of Aglow International, will meet Thursday at Holiday Inn Express. Pastor Agnes Habbit will be the speaker. She is the pastor/founder of New Jerusalem Ministries of Faith in Lampasas. She was called to preach in March 1995, and was licensed and ordained by the late Pastor Floyd Fontenot Sr. in Austin.

Pet Parade rules listed
      The 2009 Spring Ho Pet Parade will be July 10, with registration at the Santa Fe Depot building on the corner of Second and Live Oak streets at 8:30 a.m. The event, sponsored by Animal Health Center of Lampasas, will hold judging at 9 a.m.

LISD offering summer breakfast, lunch program
      Lampasas Independent School District's Child Nutrition Department is offering its summer food service program at no cost to all children ages 18 and under. To participate, youths may simply show up at Hanna Springs Elementary School through July 31.
