Jack Underwood Lometa resident Jack Nelson Underwood, 80, died June 16, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral services are June 20 at 10 a.m. at First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery.

Visitation is June 19 from 6-8 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas.

Mr. Underwood was born Jan. 14, 1929, in Lometa, the son of Ira Jackson and Mary M. Smith Underwood.

He graduated from Lometa High School and served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Underwood married Betty Ann King on May 24, 1974.

He was a rancher in Lometa. He had lived in Pasadena for 34 years and had retired from Champion Paper Co. as a production supervisor.

Mr. Underwood served as president of Houston Christian Schools for two years. He was a member of First Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of Lometa; two daughters and their husbands, Rosemary and Martin Payne of Austin and Celeste and Grant Mackie of Dundee, Scotland; three sons, George Woods and wife, Barbara, of Clear Lake, Dr. Mark Woods and wife, Debra, of Shore Acres and Austin Herridge of Brownwood; nine grandchildren, Andrew Woods, Kelsi Woods, Mark Anthony Woods, Sherie Woods, Kelly Woods, William Payne, Walker Payne, Joshua Cheatham and Jonathan Cheatham; and three great-grandchildren, Mason, Bella and Emily.

Memorials may be made to Cherokee Children's Home or First Street Church of Christ Building Fund.
