Members of the L-M Garden and Civic Club gathered for the annual flower show recently. Show chairman Sheri Stone set the stage for the event by following the show theme "New York, New York" with posters reflecting the famous sites in New York.

Show judge Marcia Chown boarded an imaginary subway as she inspected each of the 103 horticulture division entries and 12 design arrangements.

Two Lometa High School ag students -- Josepha Romero and Marcella Garcia -- assisted Mrs. Chown by keeping score and distributing award ribbons for each entry.

Following judging, members enjoyed a pasta dinner set along Broadway, Park Avenue and Wall Street while waiting for the judge's decisions.

Top honors in horticulture went to Sammie Leggett. She also earned a Sweepstakes Award for having the most blue ribbons in the division.

Award of Merit rosettes went to Kathryn Butler for her orchid phalenopsis plant, to Mrs. Leggett for a winter honeysuckle specimen, and to Pat McGarry for an iris.

Tico Hicks was the winner of Best of Show in the design category. Lewvon Hicks received two Awards of Merit for a decorative kale and a blackbird spurge specimen.
