Physician to speak at graduation
Dr. Maxwell Scarlett An accomplished alumni will be one of the speakers at commencement exercises for the College of Science on Monday at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Dr. Maxwell C. Scarlett, the first African-American graduate of Arlington State College in 1966, will give the alumni welcome at 3 p.m. in Texas Hall.
The Fort Worth native earned a bachelor's degree in biology and his medical degree in 1971 from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
He is an emergency physician at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas.
Scarlett is president and chief executive officer of Lekar Emergency Medical Associates in Killeen.
He and his wife, Vivian, recently established the biology department's first endowed professorship.
