Girl Scout camp registration opens

2009-05-15 / Lifestyles

Girl Scouts of Central Texas is registering girls entering grades 1-12 for summer camp. Campers do not need to be registered members of Girl Scouts.

Summer camps begin June 14 and continue through July 24 at Camp Wood Lake on Lake Brownwood. Camp sessions are overnight and range in length from two nights to five nights. Most sessions begin Sunday and end on Friday.

Girls who attend have the opportunity to explore nature and discover the experience of summer camp. Activities include canoeing, rock climbing, swimming, dance and more.

Qualified staff members help girls learn and grow while having fun embracing the principles of the Girl Scout promise: honesty, fairness, consideration for others, caring, courage, strength, personal responsibility, respect, resourcefulness, service and friend- ship.

"For many girls, Girl Scout camp is the best week of their summer," said Jan Cate, vice president of Community Partnerships and Facilities for Girl Scouts of Central Texas. "And, for parents, it's a safe, reliable experience that teaches their daughters life lessons and keeps the family budget balanced."

Camp fees include all activities, food, housing and supervision. Sessions at Camp Wood Lake begin at $150 for a two-night camp and $220 for a five-night camp. Non-Girl Scouts who register will become registered Girl Scouts, and a $10 registration fee will be added to camp fees.

Descriptions of camp sessions, including dates and fees, can be found at www.gsctx.org.
