Food Checkout Day held in county
Lampasas County Farm Bureau serves its Hearty Farm-Fresh Breakfast each year to a large number of residents. Lampasas County Farm Bureau, along with many other Farm Bureau organizations across the nation, observed Food CheckOut Day on Feb. 17 with a Hearty Farm-Fresh Breakfast served to a number of participants.
Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, gravy, biscuits, bacon, sausage, juice, milk, jelly, jam, butter and coffee.
The charge for breakfast was 40 cents, which is about the amount a farmer receives for his products. Proceeds from the breakfast were donated to the Lampasas County Livestock Association.
This marks the sixth year the local Farm Bureau has used the breakfast as a means to inform the public that by the week of Feb. 17, the average American has earned enough money to buy food for the year.
By contrast, they have to work until May to earn enough to pay their taxes.
Texas is the nation's second leading state in agricultural production. Agricultural commodities add about $14 billion to the state's economy, which makes agriculture the second-largest industry in Texas.
