Tractor enthusiasts prepare for Adamsville show, games
Antique tractor enthusiasts from the local area and from as far away as Houston are expected to display equipment at the Adamsville Tractor Show & Games set Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
Some of the equipment anticipated includes old John Deere tractors, International Harvesters, Minneapolis Molines, Rumleys and an Oil King, among others.
Also expected are displays of antique washing machines and old-time corn mill grinding. Tractor games to include a slow race, washer pitching from a tractor, chain games and others will be played.
The event will be at the Adamsville Community Center, including its recently acquired adjoining property that served as the Adamsville School until 1964, when it closed and became a private residence.
Food available for purchase will include smoked barbecue brisket sandwiches, homemade ice cream and other goodies. Admission is free.
Handmade and "tractor autographed" T-shirts also will be available for purchase.
All proceeds from the sale of food and T-shirts will be donated to the Adamsville Baptist Church to defray the cost of sending youths to camp.
The children's/youth outreach ministry at Adamsville Baptist Church began in 2000, transporting kids from the Adamsville and Evant areas in private vehicles on Wednesday nights. A church bus currently runs the route, often bringing in kids who otherwise would not attend church at all.
This year, 30 youth group-age kids plan to go to camp, along with elementary-age kids. Many need assistance with all or part of the camp tuition. Each year the church works to raise funds through its budget, donations, fund-raisers or work opportunities for the kids.
