LHS golf has fourth- and fifthplace finishes at tournaments
PHOTOS BY RICHARD AKRIDGE Stayton Lindeman led the Badgers to a fourth-place finish at the Brownwood tournament by shooting a team-low 83. The score earned Lindeman a share of 12th-place honors. With a trio of golfers cracking the top 20 and another sitting just outside, the Badgers placed fourth at the Brownwood Tournament last Monday.
Lampasas tied with San Antonio Central, posting a total score of 343 as Stayton Lindeman shot an 83, finishing 12th overall. Colton Perkins fell one stroke shy of replicating Lindeman's total, earning 14th place.
Ethan Byers shot an 86 to place 17th, while Colin Scheafnocker's 90 garnered 26th place. Vann Millican rounded out the squad by shooting a 94.
Host school Brownwood won the 14-team tournament by shooting a combined total of 325 behind Zac Browder's 71. Sweetwater finished second in the standings.
Wall's Garrett Smith took individual honors scoring a 70. The performance helped his school grab third place with a team score of 335.
The Badgers return to links on March 3, but the course has yet to be determined.
Freshman Mackenzie Martin posted a 108 at Lost Creek last Monday. The Lady Badgers finished fifth overall with four freshmen and a junior making up the squad. While the boys were teeing off in Brownwood, the Lady Badgers traveled to Lost Creek, where they placed fifth amongst 14 schools.
With four freshmen taking swings for Lampasas, the team posted a combined score of 418.
Austin McNeil won the tournament with a 342.
Carmen Gonzalez led the firstyear players, shooting a 95, while Madison Myers posted a 103. Mackenzie Martin tallied a 108, edging out Jules Crook (112) by four strokes.
The Lady Badgers' lone upperclassman, junior Chelsea Ragland, finished the day with a 114.
"Lost Creek is a tough course," girls' head coach Stuart Beckwith said. "There were plenty of 5A schools there, [and] we finished fifth overall; [it's] not great, but not bad.
"As their hard work goes up, we will see scores go down."
Lampasas is idle next week before returning to the links on March 9 at Burnet.
