Packing heat
PHOTOS BY RICHARD AKRIDGE Sophomore pitcher Taylor Holloman picked up a no-hitter against Lago Vista Tuesday as the Lady Badgers ran away with a 15-0 shutout victory. Lampasas heads to Austin today for the Bowie tournament. Sophomore pitcher Taylor Holloman did not even bother playing the final innings.
In fact, none of the Lady Badgers did.
They did not have to.
Thanks to a dominant performance from the lefty hurler and a heavy dose of hits from Lady Badger batters, Lampasas won via the mercy rule after taking just four innings to build a 15-0 lead against Lago Vista.
The victory improves Lampasas' record to 5-2 on the season with four victories coming on the arm of Holloman.
The Lady Vikings produced just two runners on the entire abbreviated evening with one coming by way of a walk and the other off an error.
While Lago Vista could not muster up a hit with Holloman on the mound, the Lady Badgers went berserk on offense, scorching the visitors for 14 hits.
Lead-off hitter Kalen Vann was perfect on the evening, going twofor two at the plate and scoring four runs. Freshman Kady Crow raised her teammate by one, connecting on all three of her at bats.
Kallen Vann slides in for a steal against Lago Vista. Offensively, the Lady Badgers had 14 hits, led by Vann's twofor two performance. She also scored four runs in the game. Stacey Dickens tallied a pair of hits, scored three runs and batted in another two, while Jennifer Herron and Shelly Holcomb also recorded two hits each.
The victory comes on the heels of an impressive second-place finish at the Elgin Tournament where Lampasas went 4-1.
Today the Lady Badgers head to Austin where they will participate in the two-day Bowie tournament.
