Students fare well at UIl contest

Bank seminar set Tuesday
      Citibank will present a financial evaluation seminar at the Lampasas Public Library on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The seminar is for those who are tired of being in debt, living paycheck to paycheck and not having extra money for themselves or their families.

Church plans BBQ dinner
      New Jerusalem Ministries of Faith will hold a fund-raising barbecue dinner on the grounds at 1011 Bridge St. to benefit the building fund. The event is March 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Couple exchange vows at Lampasas church
      New Covenant Church in Lampasas was the setting for the Oct. 11, 2008, wedding of Colleen Shea Deuel and Raymond Matthew Miller. The bride is the daughter of retired USMC Master Sgt. Brian J. Deuel of Jacksonville, N.C., and the late Anna Bettle Deuel. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Couple plan April wedding
      Jaci Leyan O'Hair and Ron Bumpus, both of Lampasas, plan to exchange wedding vows in an April 23, 2009, ceremony at Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Miss O'Hair is the daughter of Jerry and Rebecca O'Hair of Lampasas. She is a 2004 Lampasas High School graduate and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Tarleton State University- Central Texas in 2008.

Raffles slated for museum
      Three items will be raffled during this year's Lampasas Needle Art & Quilt Show set March 6-7 at the Lampasas County Courthouse. They include an antique quilt, donated by Judy Chapin; a beaded evening bag with a Texas flag pattern given by Phyllis Poehlmann; and a crocheted afghan given by Susan Detrick.

Texas Western event on tap
      What started 13 years ago as a small gathering of fiddle and western swing fans at the home of Mitz and Nan Ray has grown into one of the premier events for "Texasborn" music in the country. The Texas Western Swing Heritage Association of Belton will host the 13th annual Texas Western Swing Showcase on March 21 at Belton's Bell County Expo Center.

      University of North Texas Ashley Poe of Kempner was named to the College of Public Affairs and Community Service Dean's Honor Roll at the University of North Texas at Denton for the fall 2008 semester. LHS student gives presentation to club
      The GFWC/TFWC 36 Club had two guest speakers at the Feb. 12 meeting at Keystone Square Museum. James Lansford, the student the club sponsored to attend the Hugh O'Brien Youth Seminar on leadership last summer, spoke about his experiences there. Lansford said he enjoyed the motivational speakers at the HOBY seminar, and he made a lot of friends.

      Sheila Ringer is the Lampasas Art Club's Artist of the Month for February. Her paintings are on display in the foyer of Lampasas Art Gallery. Growing up on the east coast, Mrs. Ringer attended college in Florida, majoring in music with a minor in science.

Diabetes classes to start in March
      Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes is a series of classes to help persons with type 2 diabetes effectively manage the disease. The series will be taught by professionals in diabetes management once a week for five weeks beginning March 23.

Driver's ed classes set to register
      Classroom instruction for the next driver education program at Lampasas High School begins March 9. Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. Class is limited to the first 30 paid students. Pick up registration forms outside the high school main office.

TAKS retests are scheduled
      TAKS retests will be given for any current senior who has not met standards or has not taken the Exitlevel tests or students who are out of school and have not met standards. Testing will be offered as follows: English/language arts, Tuesday; math, Wednesday; science, Thursday; and social studies, March 6.
