Crawfords are recipients of Hood's prestigious Good Neighbor Award
Anna and Bill Crawford III Corps and Fort Hood held its annual Good Neighbor Dinner to honor its most recent recipients, and a Lampasas couple were among the honorees.
Bill and Anna Crawford, who have donated much of their time and resources to benefit the Lampasas community, were recognized by the Army post's echelon as "Good Neighbors." The award recognizes community members whose contributions have significantly enhanced the well-being of soldiers and their family members.
The Crawfords, along with other past recipients, will have their photograph permanently displayed on the Fort Hood Good Neighbor wall in the III Corps Headquarters.
Receiving earlier recognition as a Good Neighbor was Lampasan Sid M. Wieser, who was honored in 2002.
Mrs. Crawford was born and reared in Lampasas, while her husband hails from Crystal City. He moved to Lampasas after graduation from Texas A&M University.
The couple have been married for more than 50 years and are the parents of two sons, Greg and Thomas. They have one granddaughter and two grandsons.
The Crawfords own Guyco Construction Inc. in Lampasas.
Crawford has served on the Rollins Brook Hospital Board, Central Texas-Fort Hood AUSA Chapter Board of Governors, and he is a former president of the Lampasas Independent School District Board of Trustees.
In addition, he served on the Heart of Texas Defense Alliance Board.
Mrs. Crawford is the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce Military Relations Committee chairman and has served on the American Heart Association Board, the chamber's board of directors, Hill Country Community Action Association Board, Lampasas Kiwanis Club, Central Texas Council of Governments Criminal Justice Committee and the Lampasas REACH Board.
She was instrumental in developing programs for children and senior citizens.
The couple also has held a place of honor as Spring Ho Grand Parade marshals.
The Crawfords annually provide two athletic and academic scholarships at Texas A&M, and they sponsor -- personally and through Guyco -- $11,000 in scholarships yearly to Fort Hood soldiers and their family members through the local AUSA chapter.
The couple were recognized as Good Neighbors and were presented the Gen. Robert M. Shoemaker Award for exemplary service to soldiers and their families.
