Blue Blazes shines at Temple track meet

Behind strong showings in the field events and hurdles, the Blue Blazes track club brought home five medals, including three golds, from the Temple Meet on Saturday.

Ashley Lowery, Presley Peters and Frank James each claimed gold medals. Lowery won the girls' 18 and under 100-meter hurdles. Peters claimed the title in the girls' 12 and under 80- meter hurdles. James captured top honors in the boys' 18 and under discus.

Lampasas dominated the girls' 12 and under 80-meter hurdles as Caitlyn Shaugnessy finished behind Peters to claim the silver.

Cody Crofoot added to the Lampasas medal count with his third-place finish in the boys' 14 and under discus.

Three discus throwers from Lampasas scored points in the event, with Hayden Moseley placing fifth and John Cole Vann finishing in sixth place.

In the boys' 14 and under long jump, Joshua Barbero finished fifth, and Vann placed sixth.

The Blue Blazes athletes were scheduled to return to action Thursday at the McGregor Meet. The qualifiers meet in Temple is scheduled for Spring Ho weekend.
