Mr. Oliver

John Kyle Oliver
Funeral services for retired Lt. Col. John Kyle Oliver, 84, of Lampasas were June 29, 2008, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Steve Whitfield officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.

Mr. Oliver died June 26 at South Austin Hospital.

He was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Lampasas, the son of William Kyle and Gene Hooper Oliver.

Mr. Oliver graduated from Texas A&M University.

He married Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Bailey on Sept. 6, 1947, in Lampasas.

Mr. Oliver served in the U.S. Air Force at duty stations in Alaska, Germany, San Antonio, Maryland and Alabama.

He was an active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry.

Mr. Oliver was a former Lampasas City Council member, a member of the Lampasas Lions Club, American Legion, Texas A&M Twelfth Man Foundation and Naruna Jaegermeister Society.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Jeanna Oliver and Mark Swope, and Joan Oliver and Ron Olderog; two sons and their wives, John Ross and Francie Oliver, and Jeffery Kyle and Denise Oliver; nine grandchildren, Kyle Oliver, Carrie Oliver Zachry, John Paul Swope, Kate Swope, Oliver Olderog, Bailey Olderog, Ty Wheeler, Brett Wheeler and Brooke Oliver; a nephew; several nieces; and other relatives.

Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife.

The family requested memorials be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 4829, Austin, TX 78765; or St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lampasas.

Sneed Funeral Chapel of Lampaas had charge of arrangements.
