Girl Scouts tour museum, visit rock collector, park
Seventeen Girl Scouts of varying ages visited the Keystone Square Museum earlier this month to learn about Lampasas County history.
The visit was part of a summer program, "Museum Mondays," initiated by the Girl Scouts of Central Texas in Killeen.
Rhonda Hershey, program specialist at the Girl Scouts of Central Texas, was the event organizer.
The group spent the morning at the museum where they learned about life in Lampasas County in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In period dress, museum volunteers Kay Briggs, Susan Detrick, Judy Smith, Peggy Wolfe and Carol Wright told stories about laundry, cooking, school, banking and quilting and sewing, respectively, in order to bring early Lampasas to life.
Scouts also went on a guided tour of Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden in Campbell Park led by Amy McDaniel.
After lunch, girls visited Merritt Romans where they were treated to a tour of his extensive mineral and gem collection. They also played games on the lawn.
The museum is open Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by appointment.
Phone 556-2224 to make special arrangements or for tours. The museum is at 303 S. Western St.
Admission is free, and donations are accepted.
