Teacher education program offered in Marble Falls

The Texas Tech Teacher Education Program first cohort will begin classes in Marble Falls Aug. 26. This new undergraduate program allows a student to earn a degree and become a teacher without leaving the Hill Country.

Expected enrollment at TTU for junior and senior level education courses is 15 students. In addition, students are taking classes at Central Texas College with intent to transfer to TTU after completing the core curriculum.

The majority of these students are employed as teaching assistants or paraprofessionals in area schools, including Marble Falls, Johnson City, Burnet, Liberty Hill and Lampasas.

Many are taking advantage of the State Education Aide Exemption which pays their tuition and fees while they are studying to become certified teachers. Local scholarships also are available.

Students with at least 40 hours of transferable credit can still apply to join the first cohort at TTU at Highland Lakes by phoning (830) 798-9548 to speak to an adviser.

Students have until July 9 to enroll at CTC for the second summer session.

Phone (830) 756-9890 in Burnet or 556-2969 in Lampasas.
