TxDOT begins seal coating

The Texas Department of Transportation this summer will apply a seal coat of fresh asphalt and rock to several highways in Lampasas County.

Roads scheduled for seal coat applications include portions of U.S. Highway 281 from the Coryell County line to Adamsville, U.S. 281 from north of U.S. Highway 183 to Avenue D in Lampasas and Farm-to-Market Road 2657 south of County Road 4744 to the Burnet County line.

Ronald R. Wagner & Co. LP of Kendalia received the $5.9 million contract.

The applications are designed to seal road surfaces and prevent moisture from damaging road base. TxDOT estimates the process may extend the life of a roadway by seven to 10 years.

Seal coat application time runs to mid-August. Motorists may experience delays and brief lane closures on these roadways.
