Express U19 girls district champions

The Tri-City Express U19 girls' soccer team won three of four games last weekend to claim the South Texas Western District Cup.

In the opening round, the Express jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held off a Rio Valley Celtics' rally to claim a 3-2 win. Jackie Lovejoy found the net twice, and Kelsey Wilcox also recorded a goal.

In the second, Wilcox scored again, but the Express fell to the Dripping Springs Stars, 2-1.

The Express rebounded in the finals, toppling the San Marcos Cru, 2-0 behind the defensive efforts of Elizabeth Hawthorn, Andy Dibble, Bree Lindeman and Kassie Carpenter.

Wilcox scored both goals, including a laser from 40 yards out to break a scoreless tie in the 61st minute. She added the insurance tally six minutes later and turned it over to the defense.

The Express earned an opportunity to compete in the South Texas Youth Soccer Association South Texas Cup Championships May 17- 18.
