Mrs. Smith
Mrs. Smith died May 5. She was born Oct. 30, 1915, in San Saba County, the daughter of Arthur and Georgia Richmon. She married Alton Wayne Smith on Sept. 22, 1934, in San Saba, and he preceded her in death in 1996. The Smiths moved from San Saba County to the Long Cove community north of Lometa in 1941. They farmed and ranched together and she continued the ranching business after her husband's death. Mrs. Smith held various jobs in the Lometa area, such as working at a flower factory, poultry house, pecan orchard and as a caretaker of the elderly. She also spent a number of years as the Lometa School librarian until her retirement. Survivors include children, Joan Criswell, and husband, Marcus, of Dumas, Peggy Jones, and husband, Ron, of Lometa, and Terry Smith, and wife, Gayle, of Goldthwaite; 11 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and two greatgreat grandchildren. She also is survived by three foster children, several foster grandchildren, foster great-grandchildren and foster great-greatgrandchildren.
