Mrs. Moon Jewel Vernice Moon, 83, of Kempner died April 28, 2008, at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. Funeral services are May 3 at 10 a.m. at Oak Hills Baptist Church in Kempner with Brother Donald Montgomery officiating, assisted by Brother Andy Papson. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery at Kempner. Visitation is May 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Sheppard Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Mrs. Moon was born July 9, 1924, in Yancey, the daughter of Clinton Jackson and Lizzie Oral Thomas Montgomery. She married James Elmer Moon on April 12, 1950, in Belton. Mrs. Moon was a homemaker and a member of Oak Hills Baptist Church. Survivors include daughters, Glenda Kay Hill, and husband, Marvin, of Salado, and Billylee Renea Deckard, and husband, Wayne, of Round Rock; a son, James E. Moon Jr., of Kempner; two sisters, Kay Stapp, of Rogers, and Sue Bross, of Bastrop; six brothers, Lloyd Montgomery and Butch Montgomery, both of Temple, Jack Montgomery, of Troup, Donald Montgomery, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Joe Montgomery and Sammy Montgomery, both of Salado; 12 grandchildren, John Moon, Chad Moon, Jason Moon, David Moon, Jenny Key, Ricky Moon, Anthony Hill, Nichole Dockray, Gary Lange, Mandy Lange, Michael Deckard and Valerie Deckard; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Jackie Moon and Randy Moon; a sister, Marge Foster; and three brothers, Clinton Montgomery Jr., Martin Montgomery and Mackey Ray Montgomery. Pallbearers are Anthony Hill, Gary Lange, Jason Moon, David Moon, Calvin Dockray, Kevin Key and Glen Moon.
