Pecan Field Day on tap

San Saba County Pecan Growers will host the annual Pecan Field Day May 5 at the Civic Center. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the program at 9 a.m.

A $20 registration fee will be accepted in advance, or $25 at the door. A catfish lunch will be provided.

A slate of speakers will include Bill Ree, Extension pecan entomologist, who will discuss general pecan IPM; Larry Stein, Extension horticulturist, who will cover pecan disease control, fertilization and general pecan orchard management; Tommy Thompson, USDA pecan specialist, who will discuss old and new varieties; Wade Hibler, Extension agent, Burnet County, who will cover management of yard trees; Cindy Wise, Texas Pecan Growers Association, who will update the association's activities; and Scott Anderson, Brown County Extension agent, who will provide the laws and regulations portion of the program.

A number of commercial exhibitors will be on hand to share equipment and the newest products.

Seven CEUs will be offered for participants with commercial or private applicator licenses.
