LISD bands to perform

Lampasas High School band will present "as the days become shorter...", a major work for concert band by Dr. Gary P. Gilroy, director of bands at California State University-Fresno.

The piece was commissioned by and written for the Badger Band in memory of their classmate and friend, Chris Cruz, who died last year along with his father, Frankie, and sister, Jade.

Donations from individuals and businesses throughout the community assisted in commission of the piece.

It will be performed May 8 during the LHS band's Spring Concert.

Hanna Springs Intermediate's sixth-grade band will kick off the evening at 6:30 p.m., under the direction of Glenn Grant; followed by Lampasas Middle School band at 7 p.m., conducted by Robert Leyva.

LHS band performances begin at 8 p.m., featuring the LHS jazz band, directed by Grant; the LHS concert band, under the direction of Nancy Norris; and the LHS symphonic band, under the direction of Richard Hooper.

The concert, set at Bozarth- Fowler Gym, is free and open to the public.
