LHS SOFTBALL

The Lampasas High School softball banquet is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 7 at the Lampasas Middle School Cafeteria.

The cost is $10, and tickets can be purchased at Hodges & Sargent Pharmacy, Cattles Pharmacy or the LHS athletics office. The event will be catered by Ed and Kristy Strickland, who will serve pulled pork.

HALL OF FAME

Lampasas High School football and track legend Johnny "Lam" Jones will be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in a ceremony May 3 at the Ferrell Center in Waco.

The banquet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., and anyone can attend. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students. For tickets, call (254) 829-1556.

Jones was a football standout for LHS from 1973-75 before twice earning All-America honors at the University of Texas. He played five seasons with the New York Jets after being selected as the second overall pick in the 1980 NFLDraft.

Jones led LHS to the 1976 Class 3A track title before winning a gold medal at the Montreal Olympics with the 400 relay team.

LHS BASKETBALL

The Lampasas High School Basketball Booster Club has scheduled a membership drive for 6:30 p.m. on May 22 at the Bozarth-Fowler Gymnasium foyer.

Refreshments will be served, and all proceeds will go to the Badger basketball program. The Badgers are coming off a 19-12 season.

PLAYOFF SOFTBALL

The Class 3A bi-district softball showdown between Liberty Hill and Gatesville is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at Lady Badger Field.

The price is $3 for adults and $2 for students. District 17-3A and 18-3A passes will be accepted.

RUNNING

The Youth Ministry of First United Methodist Church is hosting a 5K Faith Race on May 3 at Kline Whitis Elementary School.

The fund-raiser will benefit the youth program. The registration fee is $20 and can be paid on the day of the race or by visiting www.lampasasmethodist.com.
