Art in the Park
The first event is Saturday at the sculpture garden for installation of several pieces of art, followed by a catered buffet of wine and hors d'oeuvres from 4- 6:30 p.m., along with a private showing of the sculptures in place. Admission for the catered event is $10, and tickets must be purchased in advance by phoning 556-6997. Sculptor Joe Barrington will meet and greet guests Saturday, joining sculptors Delbert Beckham, Tim Glover, Carolann Haggard and Rolando Saenz. All sculptures are on loan to Lampasas for one year. Barrington's sculpture, "The Elusive Red Herron," is made of welded steel. Both Barrington, a Throckmorton resident, and his grandfather were welders. Barrington's pieces are widely exhibited and in public collections nationwide. "Pegasus," by Dallas/Fort Worth native Carolann Haggard, will also be installed Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Ms. Haggard's awards and grants are numerous, and her work is in private and public collections all over the world. Delbert Beckham, a sculptor from Center, will add one of his pieces, "Habitat," to the sculpture garden Saturday. "Habitat," made of welded steel, is one of Beckham's "flower" series. The artist has his own studio with a sculpture gallery where he displays his work. Glover's "Whirlwind" also will be installed, along with Waco artist Saenz's "Horse." * * * In LAFTA's second event, set May 3 at 5 p.m., a fund-raising dinner will be held at Mesquite Creek. Three sculptures will be delivered for viewing by Gilbert Barrera, a sculptor and founder of Sculptors Dominion International Inc., a non-profit organization based in San Antonio. Its mission is to make large, outdoor sculpture available to as many people as possible.
Barrera is responsible for bringing many of the sculptures to the downtown Marble Falls area where they are on exhibit for the remainder of the year. The sculptures coming to Mesquite Creek offer an international dimension to the eight sculptures to be on view at Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden in Campbell Park Saturday. "Pinata," by Australian artist Kerry Cannon, was completed in 2005, and was exhibited at the Florence Biennale. "Eternal," by China sculptor Huang Jian, was selected for a corporate collection in Tianjin. The artist's work also was chosen for the Bejing Olympic Park. "Fist: A Self Portrait," is by New York artist Alexandra Martin. Her work is in many private collections and has been exhibited widely. A catered dinner will be served, with wine provided by Pillar Bluff and Legato Vineyards of Lampasas. Bracken Hale and Derek Groves will be musical guests.
Tickets are $75 each and are available by phoning 556-6997.
