Library Foundation benefit exceeds group's expectations
Proceeds go toward expansion project to upgrade facilities

Members of the Library Foundation of Lampasas, Texas reported they were exhausted as well as elated after the recent BBQ for Books fund-raiser to benefit the Lampasas Public Library building project. The event was termed a huge success, with 38 volunteers serving meals and delivering food to area businesses and baking more than 60 chocolate sheet cakes for the event.

The foundation had set a goal to sell 500 tickets for the fund-raiser, however volunteers sold nearly 900 tickets. Kay Gray-Fox, treasurer for the group, said orders came from as far away as Kempner, Lometa and Copperas Cove.

"We are just thrilled that so many people in the community were willing to support our building fund," she said.

A new library has been in the planning stages for years, and fund-raising is ongoing. The Library Foundation is more than one-third toward its goal of raising $1.2 million for an expansion project.

Komatsu Architecture of Fort Worth, an expert in library design, is working with the local foundation to help upgrade the facilities to meet the demands of the growing community.
