Chamber secretary assists

Missy Hlavaty is the newest face at the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce. Serving as the organization's secretary, Mrs. Hlavaty has been in the office for the past seven months.

She and her family have lived in Lampasas for six years, coming here from the hustle and bustle of San Antonio.

"We were looking for the country life, and we found Lampasas," she said.

Mrs. Hlavaty and her husband, Stephen, an employee of U-Haul, have two children: Zach, a senior at Lampasas High School, and Kati, an eighth-grader.

Aside from working Monday through Thursday at the chamber office, Mrs. Hlavaty said she enjoys doing crafts, including stamping. She also likes to read and is involved with her children and their extracurricular activities.

Kati plays tennis, while Zach is a three-year varsity football player.

Mrs. Hlavaty is the secretary for the Class of 2008 Project Graduation, and the group is hard at work staging this year's event.

The relative newcomer to Lampasas enjoys her chamber work, she said.

"I love it when people stop by here. I get to visit them and find out where they're from, and I recommend places for them to visit. Because we are right on the highway, we get a lot of traffic in here," she said.

Mrs. Hlavaty shares recommendations of where visitors can eat, shop and sightsee.

"I encourage folks to see our historic buildings and to take the driving tour. A lot of them also want to see the springs.

"I enjoy being here. My job lets me meet a lot of new people, and I enjoy working with Jill."
