Junior high boys finish second at district meet

The Lometa Junior High boys' track and field team captured a second place finish at the district meet, held in San Saba on March 29.

Behind the strength of medals in all three relays, the LJH boys racked up 149 total points.

The 400 relay team of Hector Ortiz, Brandon Lilly, Dylan Straley and Chris Scarborough and the 1600 relay team of Cody Hand, Scarborough, Straley and Ortiz captured gold medals.

The 800 relay team of Ortiz, Lilly, Cody Montgomery and Darian Maldonado earned a silver.

Straley earned individual golds in the triple jump and the high jump, and Scarborough grabbed the gold in the 110 hurdles, the silver in the discus and the bronze in the long jump.

Lilly captured bronze in the discus, as did Justin Aldy in the 800 meters.

Cody Hand finished fourth in the triple jump, and Ortiz and Mac Pauly each placed fourth in the long jump and the high jump, respectively.

Allen Belyeu took fifth in the 2400, and Lilly finished fifth in the 200. Maldonado, Noe Salinas and Tony Garcia grabbed fifth-place finishes in the 800, 400 and 100, respectively.

Jerrod Purser finished sixth in the 400 while Salinas and Maldonado placed sixth in the 1600 and the shot put, respectively.
