Mr. Beene
Funeral services were April 11 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with Pastor Paul Evans of First United Methodist Church of Boerne officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. Mr. Beene was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Jewitt, the son of James W. and Addie Daughtry Beene. He and his parents moved to San Marcos when he was 8 years old, where his parents ran a boarding house at the college. As a young man, Mr. Beene traveled around Texas doing road construction. He joined the Army Air Corps at Kelly Field in San Antonio in 1940. He served 27 months in England, returning to the U.S. to work at Kelly Field until he retired in 1972. Mr. Beene was in the civil engineering department for Civil Service. Survivors include a son, James L. Beene, and wife, Anthea, of Houston; a sister-in-law, Sadie Beene, of San Marcos; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Corbin Beene. The family requested memorials be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Fla., 33607-1460.
