Hamilton resident Mark Thompson defeated Lampasan Dale Henry 59 percent to 41 percent in Tuesday's Democratic Party runoff for railroad commissioner.
With all precincts statewide reporting, Thompson claimed 117,496 votes to Henry's 81,107.
Henry received nearly unanimous support in Lampasas County, with 104 of the 108 votes cast. Only 7 percent of the 1,603 Democrats who voted in the March presidential primary participated in the runoff election.
Thompson will face incumbent railroad commissioner Michael Williams, a Republican, in the Nov. 4 general election.
