Retired teachers have entertainment

D'Anne Willis took the Lampasas County Retired Teachers on a journey down memory lane singing golden oldies from the 1940s during the April 1 meeting at the Lampasas Independent School District Board Room.

Mrs. Willis, a sought-after vocalist, is the wife of Dr. Rick Willis, pastor of First Baptist Church.

She said her parents' favorite music is what she grew up on, and she performed several numbers made popular by Ella Fitzgerald and the Andrews Sisters, and her parents' favorite, "It Had to be You," before closing with the popular "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," a Judy Garland classic.

President Kay Gray-Fox conducted the business session, calling for committee reports. She reminded members of the May 10 election, and announced the TRTA Spring Workshop will be May 5 at the District XII Education Service Center in Waco. Several volunteered to attend with her.

The May 6 meeting will be the final meeting of the club year. It will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Adamsville Community Center. Dues, at $35, will be collected, and members will furnish a covered dish for the meal.

The program will include members presenting talent, skits, readings and/or anecdotes.

No reservations are necessary. All retired school personnel are invited to participate.
