7 seniors complete LHS tennis careers

Josh Tucker serves at the District 25-4A Tournament.
Lampasas High School head tennis coach Kenneth Peiser watched seven more players complete his program last week at the District 25-4A Tournament.

He wasn't necessarily watching those players in terms of technique and skill level. He was a little more worried about their level of effort.

"For the seniors, it was their last chance to give everything they had on the court," the coach said. "Many of them will never pick up a racket again. Of the 70 or so players I've coached in the last nine years, I know of maybe five who still play. Effort is what I wanted all of them to learn. That if they don't put forth effort, they will not get results that are satisfying to them. That lack of practice will not get you a win against a tough opponent, and that laziness will not get you the grades or job you want. It all relates."

In girls' singles, Abby Peterson won her first match in singles but lost in the second round. Sophomore Lillie Davis took an early lead but lost an opening-round match in three sets.

In girls' doubles, Ashley Perkins/ Kayla Krueger won a first-round match, and Amy Johnson/Alex Miller lost in the first round. In mixed doubles, Dustin Hause/Ciara Salazar lost a three-setter in the opening round, and Meredith Lane/ Cody Self moved up from the junior varsity and lost in the first round.

In boys' singles, Josh Tucker and Caleb Wales both lost first-round matches. In boys' doubles' Jesse Cox/Stan Smith won a first-round match before losing in the second round. Zach McKenzie/Phillip McLain fell in the first round.
