LHS graduate has research paper published in magazine Lampasas High School graduate and Baylor University master of music candidate Bodie Gilbert can add publishing honors to his resume, after his extensive research was published in the recently released 2008 Assemblies of God Heritage magazine. "A Short History of Congregational Song in the Assemblies of God" was authored by the former Lampasas resident, who is pursuing a graduate degree in church music studies. Gilbert also is an adjunct instructor of music at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. His article explores Assemblies of God hymnals -- from the first congregational songbook published in 1924 to the more contemporary music of the current era -- and how they contributed to the life of churches and the heritage of congregational song. Gilbert's work can be viewed online at www.ifphc.org, then click on Heritage Magazine, current issue. Other features in the annual publication include "Teen Challenge: 50 Years of Miracles" about David Wilkerson's outreach ministry; "Conflicted by the Spirit: The Religious Life of Elvis Presley"; and articles on "Women of Color" in the Assemblies of God and "History of Hispanic AG Women in Ministry" from 1915-1950. Gilbert is the son of former Lampasas residents Ronnie and Jeanie Gilbert. His father is pastor of First Assembly of God in Comanche, and Mrs. Gilbert has recently been named postmaster at Hillsboro. ![]() |
