VDL seeks volunteers

Vision Downtown Lampasas! is hosting a "Volunteer Saturday" project to clean up the downtown district April 19 beginning at 8 a.m., to coincide with the city's Clean Sweep event April 14-19.

Downtown business and property owners, churches, community groups and citizens are encouraged to participate in this fun and important community activity, said Jeff Jackson, chairman of the Design and Beautification Committee.

Volunteers will meet at the bandstand where they will sign in and form work groups. The main focus is to trim overgrown trees and shrubs around the square.

Business owners in the downtown district are encouraged to tidy their store fronts and alleys by sweeping the sidewalks, cleaning windows, mowing the alley, etc., during Clean Sweep Week.

Over-sized items that will not fit into trash cans may be taken to Dumpsters at the City Barn during Clean Sweep Week. Volunteers will be available April 19 for business owners who need assistance with any clean-up tasks.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves, electric hedge clippers, extension cords, pruning shears, tree saws, rakes and brooms. Be sure to label equipment.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to May 3.

Refreshments will be served.
