Sue Shahan earns TEEX promotion

Sue Shahan, a former Lometa resident, was recently named deputy director of the Texas Engineering Extension Service by the Texas A&M University System's Board of Regents.

In addition to handling her duties in employee services, Ms. Shahan will continue to oversee all administrative functions within the agency and be second in command in the event of absence by TEEX Director Gary Sera.

"For close to 20 years, Sue has been a major contributor to the success of TEEX," said Sera.

"Her leadership and skills have been instrumental in the growth and development of TEEX as a premier training and service organization in Texas. She has an indepth understanding of all facets of the agency and is an excellent complement to my style of management."

Sera added that he is delighted with the board's appointment.

Ms. Shahan joined TEEX in 1988, establishing the first human resources office for the agency. She has served on numerous Texas A&M University System-spon- sored committees that influenced the strategic development of policies that impact employees. She has more than 35 years of experience in state government and worked for Dresser Industries prior to her state service.

Ms. Shahan earned a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a master's degree from Lamar University. Most recently, she completed the Governor's Executive Development Program at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Texas, and is a 2002 graduate of Leadership Texas.

Ms. Shahan was honored in 2005 as one of five "Outstanding Women in State Government." She also was honored as a Regents Fellow by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents in 2006.

She will continue to serve the agency's mission to develop a skilled and trained workforce that enhances public safety, security and economic growth of the state and the nation through training, technical assistance and emergency response.

In fiscal year 2007, TEEX served more than 200,000 people from all 50 states and 53 countries through training and technical assistance. The agency has seven divisions and an annual budget of $79.3 million.

"I'm honored to serve as the deputy director of TEEX," said Ms. Shahan. "I look forward to helping the agency in its mission to provide valuable services and comprehensive training throughout Texas and beyond."
