Wade Lackey
Mr. Lackey died March 27. He was born Oct. 18, 1947, in San Saba, the son of William Rainey and Alenia Catherine Ratliff Lackey. He married Patty Moore on Dec. 31, 1964. Mr. Lackey was called to the ministry and licensed on April 22, 1979, at First Baptist Church in San Saba. Soon after, he was named pastor of Locker First Baptist Church. On Feb. 2, 1980, San Saba First Baptist and Locker First Baptist ordained Mr. Lackey to the ministry. The Lackeys moved to Lampasas on Sept. 2, 1980, and he became minister of Second Baptist Church. Having a desire to help the homeless, Mr. Lackey moved into Faith Rescue Mission in 1983 to better understand the plight of the homeless, without anyone knowing he was a pastor. In October 1983, the Lackeys moved back to San Saba, and he became an evangelist, preaching at many different churches. In December 1984, Mr. Lackey was called to be interim pastor of Pecan Grove Baptist Church, and in March 1985, he went to Priddy Baptist Church to serve as its pastor. In 1986, Mr. Lackey was instrumental in starting outreach, homebound and prayer chain ministries. In 1988, he was called to Belle Plain Baptist Church in Brownwood, and in 1992, he became the pastor of Evant First Baptist Church. Mr. Lackey received his diploma in 1997 from Southwestern Baptist Seminary Extension in Gatesville, and received a diploma in pastoral ministries from Southwestern Seminary in 1998. On Jan. 3, 2000, Mr. Lackey became pastor at Buchanan West Baptist Church, where he ministered until his death. He also served inmates at Burnet County Jail. In addition to his career as a minister, Mr. Lackey was an avid hunter and fisherman. He took up flint-knapping as a hobby, and taught the art at numerous shows and fairs. He is survived by his wife of Buchanan Dam; children, Laura Tatsch of Llano, Alicia Murphy and husband, Tom, of Austin, and Wesley Lackey and wife, Shannon, of Bertram; grandchildren, Chris, Caden, Carter, Chanel, Victoria, Catherine, Kody, Payton and Ethan; brothers, Winston Lackey, Douglas Lackey and Fletcher Lackey; sisters, Erma Avant and Patsy Telton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Lackey was preceded in death by his parents and by a grandson, Zachary Wade Hogue. Arrangements by Putnam Funeral Home & Crematory of Kingsland. |
