LHS tennis gears up for district at Killeen

Playing at four different sites and through fluctuating temperatures, the Lampasas High School tennis team performed its final tune-up for Thursday's district meet with a tournament at Killeen.

In singles action, Abby Peterson and Lillie Davis each went 2-2 on the girls' side, while Chris Naley and Josh Tucker competed on the boys' side.

In doubles, Phillip McLain/Zach McKenzie went 2-1, and Jesse Cox/ Stan Smith went 1-3 on the boys' side. In girls' action, Kayla Krueger/Ashley Perkins and Alex Miller/Amy Johnson went 2-2.

The district meet is scheduled to be played at Cedar Park Vista Ridge.

"Many of these kids will not pick up a racket again, but hopefully they will have learned that effort is the key to anything," LHS coach Kenneth Peiser said. "This week, we will be playing matches in order to get ready for Thursday."

The LHS junior varsity competed at Belton last Thursday.

In girls' singles, Meredith Lane won her last three matches to claim the consolation title, beating teammate McKenzie Myrick in a tight match to do it.

Nick Baker, Garth Jones, Michelle Morris, Macy McPherson, Kristine Smith, Alyssa Castle, Katrina Salazar and Paige Jones also competed.
