Cattle Auction

The report from the March 26 sale at Lampasas Cattle Auction is as follows.

Cattle and calves: Estimated receipts 625 compared to 297 last week and 340 last year. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers $3-$5 higher; slaughter cows and bulls steady.

Bulk supply medium and large 1-2 250 lb. to 750 lb. feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 5 percent and replacement cows 70 percent. The feeder supply included 51 percent steers and 49 percent heifers. Nearly 48 percent of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 200-300 lbs., $120- $135; 300-400 lb., $118-$131; 400-500 lb., $115-$124; 500-600 lb., $110-$120; 600-700 lbs., $95- $106; 700-800 lb. yearlings, $94- $96.

Medium and large frame 2, 200- 300 lb., $95-$119; 300-400 lb., $102-$115; 400-500 lb., $101- $109; 500-600 lb., $98-$108; 600- 700 lb., $91-$97; 700-800 lb. yearlings, $86-$91.

Medium and large frame 3, 400- 500 lb., $96-$102; 500-600 lb., $97-$101.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, couple 200-300 lb., $115; $300-400 lb., $103-$117; 400-500 lb., $100-$113; 500-600 lb., $95- $108, 600-700 lb., $90-$94, light test. Medium and large frame 2, 200- 300 lb., $105-$113; 300-400 lb., $98-$105; 400-500 lb., $93-$100; 500-600 lb., $90-$95.

Medium and large frame 3, 300- 400 lb., $80-$92; 500-600 lb., set $71.

Slaughter cows: breakers, 75- 80 percent lean, 1,200-1,600 lb. high dressing, $53 lb.; boners, 80- 85 percent lean, 1,200-1,600 lb., average dressing, $49-$54 lb., high dressing, $56-$57; boners, 80-85 percent lean, 1,000-1,200 lb., average dressing, $47-$52; lean, 85-90 percent, 1,000-1,200 lb., low dressing, $47-$52; lean, 85-90 percent, 800-1,000 lb., low dressing, $43-$49; lean, 85-90 percent, under 800 lb., low dressing, $30-$37.

Slaughter bulls: yield grade 1- 2, 1,450-1,900 lb., $63-$65; high dressing, 1,500-2,080 lb., $65- $71.25; low dressing, 1,240-1,355 lb., $53-$59.

Replacement cows: medium and large 1-2, young to middle aged 900-1,300 lb. cows, 3 to 8 months bred, $900-$990 per head.

Cow calf pairs: medium and large 1-2, young to middle aged 900-1,300 lb. cows with 100-250 lb. calves $725-$845 per pair.
