Bible study series slated

The Come Thirsty Class of First United Methodist Church will offer "Abiding in Love: A Study of 1,2,3 John" beginning April 20 at 10 a.m.

Dr. Neal Leavell will facilitate the study and discussion.

The six-session study by William Carter focuses on the practical expression of the Easter faith.

Abiding in Love picks up John's designation of the deeds of faith as "love" rather than "works" (1 John 3:23). Each session reflects the tensions encountered by those who seek to express their faith in the world. They show John's particular awareness of the continuing presence of sin within the Christian community: "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves" (1 John 1:8).

Each chapter includes a purpose statement, the printed Bible passage, a core verse, a modern situation that the Bible passage can help resolve, formative guidance on the modern situation presented by the text, questions for personal reflection, and a closing prayer.

Study books are available now; a $7 reimbursement is suggested. The Come Thirsty Class meets each Sunday at 10 a.m. at the last classroom on the left at the Wesley Fellowship Center.
