Professional floral designer shares basic arranging skills

At a recent meeting of Browning Community Garden Club, Sharron Van Weelden, a professional floral designer, shared her knowledge of basic arranging, with emphasis on arrangements for dining table centerpieces.

Koneta Saum read "I Often See Flowers," by Robert Frost to open the business session.

A letter of thanks from Kempner Postmaster Penne Reagey for the tree planted in observance of Arbor Day was read to the group by Doris Magnor.

A brief theme study on lavender was provided by club member Carol Huls.

She also reviewed an article on the black swallow wart vine, taken from the "National Gardener."

It was announced that the club's sponsored speech contestant, Trevor McGuire, a Lampasas High School junior, is a finalist in state competition. He will present his speech at the State Spring Convention April 6-9 in Killeen.

Up next, garden club members plan to participate in the Great Texas Trash-Off litter removal drive April 5.
