Connally knocks off LHS softball
Connally 5, Lampasas 3

After picking up a key road win against Lake Travis on Wednesday, the Lampasas High School softball team couldn't keep the road magic alive, dropping a District 25-4A contest against Pflugerville Connally, 5-3.

LHS (11-13-1 overall, 2-4 in district) will close out the first half of the district loop at home tonight against Pflugerville Hendrickson.

In the loss to Connally, the Lady Badgers compounded some tough luck at the plate by committing some crucial defensive mistakes.

"To some degree we were snakebit because we probably hit six or seven rocket shots right at people, and two or three of them could have tied or won the game if they had fallen in," LHS head coach Chris Gaffney said. "But we also made some mistakes in the outfield and (starting pitcher) Kirby (Crow) didn't have her changeup. You combine all that, and it equals a loss."

Freshman catcher Marisa Bogart recorded two hits and drove in two runs, while senior third baseman Vonzella Underwood drove in the third. Crow threw seven innings, allowing three earned runs to fall to 6-8 on the year.

"Tonight, I want to see them make good contact against a good pitcher and play better defense," the coach said.
