CASA celebrates 15 years of helping abused children CASA for the Highland Lakes Area celebrated its 15th anniversary earlier this month. To observe the occasion, all active and inactive volunteers, past and present board members, and previous CASA staff are invited to the Kingsland office April 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. for a Volunteer Reunion and Anniversary Celebration. In 1993, CASA of Burnet County was formed. Penny McCullough was the first volunteer, and she later was hired and has been executive director since that time. Today, CASA of the Highland Lakes Area serves five counties: Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano and San Saba. Several hundred trained volunteers have aided more than 1,300 children who had to be removed from their homes by the state due to abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers continue to seek the best interest of such children and advocate for safe, secure placements. To become a CASA volunteer or to assist in other ways, call (325) 388-3440. |
