Citizenship seminar draws area students

The 45th annual Texas Farm Bureau Youth Leadership Conference is designed to make youths take a look at their ideas, attitudes and abilities.

The conference places emphasis on patriotism, responsibility and leadership.

Top-notch speakers lead students in interactive discussions about real-world issues. Students explore the U.S. Constitution and see how it was designed and written by the country's founding fathers.

Students also learn the basic principles of the free-market, capitalist economic system.

Youths are led in activities that show the importance of setting goals, and they participate in various leadership activities that help build confidence in themselves and their abilities.

This year's conference is June 23-27 at Angelo State University in San Angelo. Those who attend may enter the FB Free Enterprise Speech Contest to compete for scholarships.

Lampasas County Farm Bureau has sent students to this conference every year since 1964.

Current 10th- and 11th-graders interested in attending may phone the local FB office at 556-6271 or Christine Groves at 556-5511. There is no cost for students to enter.
