FB accepting applications for summer ag institute

Lampasas County Farm Bureau is accepting applications from elementary schoolteachers for the 2008 Texas Farm Bureau Summer Agricultural Institute at Tarleton State University in Stephenville June 16-20.

The graduate-level, one-week institute strives to inform educators about the importance of food and fiber production, and shows them how to incorporate agriculture education into the classroom.

Teachers who attend the institute combine hands-on learning activities about agriculture with practical curriculum development and usage.

They also participate in field trips to area farms, ranches and processing facilities. In addition, they can explore the importance of research in agriculture through the Texas A&M University Research Center at Stephenville.

Teachers at the weeklong event receive three hours of graduate credit through Tarleton and 45 clock hours of continuing professional education.

To date, more than 200 teachers have attended the institute and returned to their classrooms with a greater knowledge and understanding of the importance of agriculture.

Anyone interested in the institute may phone the Lampasas Farm Bureau office at 556-6271.

Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as space is limited.
