The local Farm Bureau crowned its first queen in 1949. Since 1960, a Miss Farm Bureau contest has been sponsored each year for local girls ages 16-19. Winners compete in districtlevel contests, where they can receive a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity to advance to the state contest. Many Lampasas Farm Bureau queens have won the district contest, and one was named the state winner. The county also boasts two state runners-up. The contest not only helps students by providing scholarships, it creates friendships and sharpens the entrants' poise and personality. Little Miss and Little Mister contests are held in conjunction with the Miss Farm Bureau event for ages 4 to 6. Talent Find competition is also very entertaining. Youths ages 16- 19 are eligible to participate, and the local winner advances to the district contest. There, the eventual winner receives a $1,000 scholarship and advances to the state competition. Since the contest's inception in 1965, there have been four state winners and many district Talent Find winners. Local contests take place in the spring. Anyone interested may phone Christine Groves at 556- 5511 for information. |
