K-K-K-K-K-K-Kyle
The LHS baseball team bused over to Austin Lake Travis Wednesday night and gave the Cavaliers all they could handle in a 3-2 district loss. The Badgers (3-12 overall, 0-3 in District 25-4A) were scheduled to play at Pflugerville Connally on Thursday night. Facing the wicked stuff of Max Garner, who struck out 18 hitters on the night, the Badgers scratched out two runs, and senior Kyle Landry made those runs stand up until the bottom of the seventh. Landry carried a one-hitter and a 2-1 lead into the final frame before a hit batsman, a double and a single sent Landry to the tough-luck loss. Landry consistently threw his fastball and curve for strikes, striking out seven and keeping the Cavaliers off-balance most of the night. "Kyle pitched one heck of a game," LHS head coach Brian McBeth said. "We were playing probably the best team in our district, and he went out there and did his job and did it well. We've got to score runs when we get guys on base, but I'm proud of the way these guys played." Landry was backed up by a defense that committed just one error and made some big plays in crucial situations such as Seth Fry's outfield assist from left field that cut down a run and maintained a 2-1 lead. "I feel like everyone is playing together and wanting to win," Landry said. "It (playing a tight game with a top team) is a big confidence boost for us." Ryan Abbott scored the Badgers' first run after singling in the top of the first, and Cody Singleton (who was a courtesy runner for catcher Coleton Lucas) stole second base and scored on a Nick Cummings single in the fourth. |
