Mrs. Garoutte Rae Nell Garoutte, 88, of Lampasas died March 15, 2008, at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas. A private service will be held at a later date. The body will be donated to medical research in Dallas. Mrs. Garoutte was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Greenville, to Stonewall Jackson and Lena Yeary Denton. She grew up in East Texas, living in Sulphur Springs and Commerce. Mrs. Garoutte attended East Texas State Teacher's College where she met and later married Woodrow Michael Garoutte. They moved to Dallas and spent several years there, and in 1952, they moved to Abilene. In 1965, Mrs. Garoutte enrolled in Hardin Simmons' nursing program and after receiving her nursing degree, she returned to Dallas and worked at Gaston Episcopal Hospital for 15 years in the intensive care unit. Mrs. Garoutte later worked for a minor emergency care center in Dallas for the last five years of her nursing career. She retired and moved to Lampasas in 1995. She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lampasas. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Kay and Leslie Detrick, of Lampasas; two sons, Michael Garoutte, of Lampasas, and Mark Garoutte, and wife, Sharlyn, of Abilene; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
