Fort Hood sets holiday observance
The Fort Hood Jewish congregation will hold a Megillah (Book of Esther) reading and Purim party Thursday at 7 p.m. at the West Fort Hood Chapel and Annex on Clarke Road.
The festival commemorates the events found in the Book of Esther, the nullification of a decree by the King of Persia seeking the deaths of Jews all over the world approximately 2,500 years ago.
The Book of Esther, written on a scroll called a Megillah, will be read, followed by a meal.
Purim is one of the most joyous of all Jewish holidays, and the wearing of costumes is encouraged to make the event a more festive occasion.
