LHS student selected as state officer

Ashley Moses
Ashley Moses, a junior at Lampasas High School and vice president of the Lampasas Family, Career, Community Leaders of America chapter, has been elected state vice president of FCCLA.

FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young men and women reach their potential through leadership.

It addresses important issues that concern today's American family.

Students participate in projects that improve their personal, family, work and social needs. FCCLA is unique among student-led organizations because its programs are planned and initiated by its members.

It is the only school career and technology student organization that emphasizes the family as its central focus.

Miss Moses will attend the State FCCLA Conference in April and will help with registration, be a host for Trek Sessions and give a presentation on community service.

This fall, Miss Moses will host a Region III Leadership Workshop at LHS. She, along with her chapter members, will demonstrate leadership-building games, banner contest and Leadership Enhancement Opportunities events to nine high schools in the Lampasas area.

Miss Moses is no stranger to leadership.

The 17-year-old has served as 2007-08 Region III vice president of community service.

She was instrumental in encouraging Region III to donate over 1,000 household items for Compassion Ministries of Waco, an organization that helps families within a 100-mile radius of Waco that have lost their jobs by providing shelter and job retraining for six months or until the family can help themselves.

The LHS student has been a member of the Student Council since seventh grade and served as president of her sophomore class. She is co-president of the junior class and serves on the Prom Committee.

Miss Moses is the daughter of Duane and Lorna Moses of Kempner.

In other FCCLA news, Miss Moses and five other LHS FCCLA members attended the Region III Conference and took contest honors.

Dionne Atalig served as voting delegate.

LEO event contest winners include Stefanie Paul, who took a gold medal for etiquette; Niaishia Johnston, gold medal for creed, mission statement and purpose of organization; Emily Olivas, gold medal, job interview; and Kristen Oakley, silver medal for Step One.

FCCLA adviser is Glenda Brady, the high school Family and Consumer Science teacher.
