The circus is coming
Lions Club sets fund-raising event

The Lampasas Lions Club will sponsor the Culpepper & Merriweather Big Top Circus in Lampasas Monday. Showtimes are 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the airport grounds.

The circus has been featured on National Geographic's Explorer television series, Entertainment Tonight and in the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune and Arizona Highways Magazine.

Lampasans are invited on circus day to watch the raising of the big top from 9:30-10 a.m., followed by a free walking tour of the circus grounds. Participants can learn facts about the performers, show history and different animal species.

This year's show features Miss Simone's high-wire act; Miss April and her Rolla Bolla; and the Arlise Troupe on their unicycles.

There also will be tigers and elephants and clowns.

Advance tickets are on sale at Hodges & Sargent Pharmacy, Cattles Pharmacy, Lampasas Cleaners, National Bank and Hoffpauir Chevrolet.

Tickets in advance are $8 for adults, and $6 for children ages 6 to 12. Those under 2 will be admitted for free.

On circus day, tickets are $11 for adults, and $7 for children. Tickets can be purchased by credit card weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by phoning (866) BIG TOP.

The box office and midway, complete with rides, a moon-bounce and concessions, will open circus day at 4 p.m.

Proceeds will assist the Lions in their efforts to provide eye glasses for local adults and children.
